The cellar room

Eighteen seats under a brick ceiling, and one booking a night.

It was the coal store. It is warm, it is loud, and nobody upstairs can hear what you say in it.

The room takes one party a night, which means you are not sharing it and there is no second sitting waiting for your table. Service runs at whatever pace you set.

There is no separate private-dining kitchen and no separate private-dining menu. You eat what the restaurant is cooking that week, arranged into a set menu so the kitchen can send eighteen plates at once. If somebody in the party cannot eat something, tell us when you book and it will be dealt with quietly rather than announced at the table.

The stairs down are steep and there is no lift. If that is a problem we will lay the main room instead, which holds a party of twenty-four on the long table, though you will be sharing the room with other diners.

We ask for a deposit of ten pounds a head to hold the room, taken off the bill on the night. Cancel more than a week out and it comes back.
