Iris Calloway, chef and owner
The room
A corn merchant’s office with a low ceiling and a loud floor.
Forty chairs, one long table down the middle, and smaller tables against the wall for people who would rather not talk to anybody. The kitchen is open to the room, which means it is warm at the back and quiet at the front.
Downstairs is the cellar, eighteen seats under a brick ceiling, which we let out to one booking a night. It is the only part of the building the fire did not reach in 1934, and it is the reason the floor above it slopes.

Ten minutes on foot from the station. Two hours of free parking on Marle Row after six, and an all-day car park behind the market hall.
Book a table
Tell us when, and we will write back the same day.
Requests are answered by a person, not a system, so they are answered during opening hours. If you need a table tonight, telephone instead.
Parties of nine or more
We take one large party a service and it eats from a set menu. Ask and we will send it.
